BB-8 also understands voice commands such as "forwards" and "backwards" and immediately takes off in that direction. BB-8 has a domed head—similar to another headstrong droid—atop a body that rolls independently to propel and make pinpoint turns and it can learn its environment for autonomous patrolling of a home or the Jakku desert with its rightful owner, the Resistance pilot Poe Dameron.
